A beautifully preserved Maya ballcourt -- the best example in Mayan world.  The play area included the sloping platforms and the center strip.  "Goals" were made by hitting the macaw head markers (close view in next photo) on the high side of the platforms.  Players stayed on the ground, that is the central strip, and could not touch the ball with their hands.
