Crater Lake National Park

Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument

The first monument designated in recognition of biological diversity, is just minutes from Ashland. Three major eco-regions, Great Basin, Cascades, and Siskiyous converge resulting in extraordinary number of flora and fauna -- nowhere else in the world do some of these species share the same habitat.

Table Rock -- fabulous afternoon hiking!
Spring wildflowers begin to bloom in February and reach their peak during April and May. A rare endangered species of fairy shrimp inhabit the vernal pools on top of the mesa. The oak woods and chaparral provide the northernmost known nesting site of the blue-gray gnat catcher.

Oregon Caves National Monument
In a beautiful old-growth conifer forest is an active marble cave with the largest exposures of ultramafic rock in North America and one of the largest, pristine, and most complete segment of old oceanic crust in Western America.

Siskiyou Field Institute

SFI offers wonderful and informative natural history field courses on the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion.  Experts teach about birds, bats, botany, fungi, geology, etc. The classrooms are in the field, on the rivers, in caves...
