Crater
Lake National Park
Fabulously
breathtaking 6 mile wide caldera created by the eruption and
collapse of Mt. Mazama almost 7,000 years ago filled with pristine
water from snow and rainfall. Well worth the 4 hour round trip!
Cascade-Siskiyou
National Monument
The
first monument designated in recognition of an area's biological
diversity, is just minutes from Ashland. Three major eco-regions,
Great Basin, Cascades, and Siskiyous, converge resulting in
extraordinary number of flora and fauna -- nowhere else in the
world do some of these species share the same habitat.

Rock -- fabulous afternoon hiking!
Spring wildflowers begin to bloom in February and reach their
peak during April and May. A rare endangered species of fairy
shrimp inhabit the vernal pools on top of the mesa. The oak
woods and chaparral provide the northernmost known nesting site
of the blue-gray gnat catcher.

Caves National Monument
In a beautiful old-growth conifer forest is an active marble
cave with the largest exposures of ultramafic rock in North
America and one of the largest, pristine, and most complete
segment of old oceanic crust in Western America.
Siskiyou
Field Institute
SFI offers
wonderful and informative natural history field courses on the
Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion. Experts teach about birds,
bats, botany, fungi, geology, etc. The classrooms are in the
field, on the rivers, in caves...
Wildlife
Image -- great for the kids!
A rehabilitation and preservation center for North American
wildlife. Open year round, except holidays, free of charge,
appointments required. Up close you will see bears, mountain
lions, eagles and more. Less than an hour's drive. Worth it,
if you're an animal lover!
